Here he uses first hand accounts, with precise meteorological data, to explain the physics and mathematics of hurricanes and suggests precautionary measures to avoid them. He also details ways to ascertain the center and direction of approaching storms and illustrates with a detailed account of a hurricane encountered in the Gulf of Mexico, in 1838. The book is bound in its original card covers which are browned with ink mark on the front board.
