No date, lovely copy in royal blue embossed cloth boards with bright gilt titles and illustrations on spine. Corners bumped but not severely rubbed, text tight and lightly age-toned but not brittle. No date found, stated third edition on title page, circa 1850. Engraved tissue-guarded frontis and all leaves intact. 196 pp Top edge gilt, else trimmed and left natural. Tidy ink name on frt pastedn, and in larger blue crayon name on rear endpp. "Eleven stories, five of which are based on fact, are supposedly narrated by Old Daniel, a storyteller of the author's acquaintance. The book has been ascribed to Charles Lamb, but Edward A. McAleer in 'The sensitive plant' gives evidence that it is by Margaret King, the daughter of the Earl of Kingsborough."
