The French-Smith map of New York is one of the great maps of the 19th century, being the culmination of a decade's worth of intensive mapping of the counties of New York State. See Ristow, chapter 22, for an extensive history of the compilation and publication of this map. With its size, it is probably the most striking map of New York State ever produced.
