Juan Bautista Roldán, Spanish calligrapher, fl. end of 17th century. 'Uno de los únicos y perfectos maestros que hay y ha habido en España' - Diego Bueno, Arte de Escribir, 1700. Cotarelo y Mori, 973. Two religious texts on the one leaf, both signed, 'M[aest]ro de la Comp[ani]a de Jesus/JHS. Roldan'. 300 x 210mm. plate mark along top edge and partially on two others, bleeding off the deckle edge. No place or date, but Madrid, last half of the 17th century.
