About this Item
This is a work of philosophical fiction. The protagonist is nominally the historical Zarathustra, but, besides a handful of sentences, Nietzsche is not particularly concerned with any resemblance. Much of the book purports to be what Zarathustra said. Zarathustra himself first appeared in Nietzsche's earlier book 'The Gay Science'. Nietzsche has suggested that his Zarathustra is a tragedy and a parody and a polemic and the culmination of the German language. / With translation by Alexander Tille. This copy is published as Volume VIII of 'The collected works'. /// This is a 'cloth-bound' 4th impression hardback in good condition-the cloth of the cover&spine is faded/rubbed/marked & this previous owners signature is on the front 'end-paper'. (479 pages & 26 pages of introduction). Originally published between 1883 & 1885 in four parts & the British first was 1896. Seller Inventory # 10309
