Dark red straight-grain goatskin, covers tooled in blind with classical border, corner pieces of hunting horns, central blocked figure of Hygeia, goddess of health, paneled spine gilt with fox mask and other ornaments, all edges gilt, by Thomas Gosdenwith his engraved label by Scott to front pastedown. Housed in custom cloth covered clamshell case. From the library of American polo player and noted sportsman J. Watson Webb, Sr. . Slight darkening to spine; extremities gently rubbed; joints lightly cracked; with two ink ownership inscriptions dated 1984 and 1865; bookplate of James Edmund Harting; slipcase. Very good. YLG-526.
