A nice copy of Cartland's first political novel, which was also the first work of fiction to be entered into the House of Commons Library, in 1942. It is dedicated to her brother Ronald, who was killed in action in World War Two, and of whom she wrote a biography, also published in 1942. Cartland was a Conservative Party booster, as well as a busy social activist. By the time she died in the year 2000, she had become the most prolific writer of romances, nearly a centenarian, and a true denizen of the twentieth century. Her notable forays into non-romantic themes, such as Sleeping Swords, are desitable for collectors and increasingly scarce. This copy shows a hint of fading and shelf-wear to the head and tail of spine, and to the other extremities. There is a light inscription, some foxing to the edges, and several owner's names to the upper front free endpaper. Internally, the text-block is clean and unmarked. The pictorial dust wrapper is price-clipped, and shows some edge-wear and closed tearing (all titling and graphics remain intact), and there is an approximately 1" strip removed from the top rear panel. The wrapper is now protected in a removeable archival sleeve. Gilt red cloth hardcovers. Scarce. 256pp. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Seller Inventory # 19360
