361 pages inc index, issued in the "Life and Letters Series" No 42. and first published in 1928 this 2nd edition of 1932 is a handsome copy with a dusty dustwrapper, silk finish green cloth with gilt embossed titles, contents clean and tight, some minor edge wear to wrapper. Octavo. 1932. With this is a series of loosely inserted news cutting on womens rights and working practices "spinsters were driven into domestic service", etc. about 15 related topics to this books contents. In it Langdon-Davies traced the development of the idea of Woman from the primitive taboo, the Christian fear, worship of fertility, etc., which was now to be reshaped by the new knowledge. Virginia Woolf commented on some of the author's ideas in A Room of One's Own. the last chapter "From womanly woman to Intelligent Being" and an epilogue on the future. The author was also a writer for the News Chronicle on the Spanish Civil war and was a advocate of preparing for war with Germany in the mid 1930's. Seller Inventory # B00279
