The first volumes of the epic work by Joseph Needham. Volume IV is in two parts for a total of 5 books. All are First Editions excepting Vol. I which is a second printing. Publication dates range from 1956 to 1965. Replete with historical drawings, graphs and diagrams and maps, with many foldouts. Handsome pictorial covers. All are well-kept library reference copies in jackets with sturdy mylar wrappers, excepting IV:1 which has had its wrapper removed. Library pockets, labels & stamps. All clean and unmarked except Vol III has an unattractive dark brown stain (coffee?) on two facing pages, which has leaked onto the surrounding dozen or so pages, and lightly to the bottom ends.
