Samantha Among the Colored Folks My Ideas on the Race Problem , by Josiah Allen s Wife (Marietta Holley), illustrated by E.W. Kemble, Dodd, Mead and Company, New York, 1894, frontispiece with numerous vignettes and full-page plates, 387 pp, blue cloth, 7.5 x 5.25 , 12mo. In good condition. Light wear to extremities with scuffing to surface of cloth and tips. End bands lightly crushed from shelf wear. Gilt finishing on spine and front board clean and intact. Top edge gilt. Spine abraded with discoloration and scuffing. Old hand ownership of W.W. Storey Harrisburg, PA dated 1906 on pastedown. Binding slightly shaken overall. Text lightly toned with minimal soiling. Free of markings. Please see photos. The illustrator, F.W. Kemble, began his career as a book illustrator when he was called upon to illustrate the first edition of Twain s Huckleberry Finn.
