The natural history sections list species occurring and cover flowering and non-flowering plants, mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians, fishes, insects and molluscs. There is an account of the ancient churches in tabular form and description of all 'the scientific industries' (i.e. engineering, chemical, military and shipbuilding, etc.).
