La rocca di Aci č una fortezza medievale costruita sulla cima di un faraglione che si protende sul mare ma unito alla terraferma da una colata lavica preistorica. Sino al perfezionamento delle armi da fuoco (secolo XVI) le vertiginose pareti di basalti colonnari sui quali esso sorge ne fecero una fortezza imprendibile; poi perdette le funzioni militari, mantenendo quelle di carcere e di postazione di vedetta. Dopo l'Unitą d'Italia l'abbandono, i crolli, l'asportazione delle pietre ne hanno mutilato le forme, sino alla tardiva riscoperta quale testimone unico della storia di una comunitą. Enrico Blanco ripercorre le vicende storiche del castello, tracciando i ritratti di taluni personaggi che vi hanno vissuto come castellani, soldati o prigionieri. Eugenio Magnano di San Lio ne legge i resti architettonici cercando di ritrovare le tracce di una vicenda che nei secoli ha visto trasformazioni, crolli e rifacimenti. Il castello di Aci č un palinsesto dove solo alcune parti sono ancora leggibili, ma del quale un confronto con altre architetture militari e non, le testimonianze storiche, la suggestione delle rovine e la conformazione stessa del sito consentono una ricostruzione ideale.
