Oblong 4to. (21 cm.) unpaged (24p.). Two pages of descriptive text plus 45 black and white captioned photos. Grey wrappers printed in blue and red, the whole designed to be sent through the mail with lines for address on the front panel. Just touches of wear to extremities, address lines filled in (Helen R. Wolter, St. John's Hospital, Red Wing, Minn.), in ink at lower left corner of front wrapper is the following: From Ray Kroells, June 1942, no rust on the staples, all photos in fine condition, lower corner or last page creased without affecting photos, else near fine to fine with no internal markings. "Fort Jackson is located in the sand hills of Richland County, about five miles to the east of Columbia. S.C. This World War Camp was constructed during 1917-1918 and was name in honor of General Andrew Jackson. The maximum strength of the camp was recorded in June, 1918, and consisted of 3, 302 officers and 45, 402 enlisted men. After the World War, the camp was used for the training of National Guard troops from practically all of the States in the Fourth Corps Area. On July 1, 1940, the Eighth Regular Army Division (Triangular) was re-activated at Fort Jackson. On September 16, 1940.the Thirtieth Division, comprising troops from Georgia, Tennessee, and the two Carolinas, was mobilized an by October 1, 1940, the strength of the Division numbered 12, 304.[The fort was subsequently the home of various units of the Army.] The post was constructed in eight months and today is South Carolina's third largest city and the Nation's (sic) sixth largest army post."
