Two volumes. 282,[1]; viii,[13]-276pp., plus frontispiece plan and advertisements. Original cloth. Cloth rubbed and cracked in places, remnants of removed shelf labels, corners bumped. Scattered tanning and foxing, minor staining. A good, sound set. Reissued with the addition of the second volume, after the first publication in 1834 in one volume. "A collection of facts, some of which were the result of the writer's own observation." - Thomson. Treats also with the states of the Midwest and South. "Narratives of frontier warfare with the Indians, and incidents of Indian life, fill almost all the pages of these interesting volumes" - Field. The plan is of the fort at Boonesboro. The work was widely read and served as an important source for Herman Melville's CONFIDENCE MAN. Howes notes that the second volume in some sets has a St. Louis imprint, as in the present set.
