Binding: tight and secure, generally clean, but all corners and edges rubbed/bumped, spine ends to both vols. chipped to various degrees, top vol.2 has lost about half top panel and quarter bottom, vol. 1 marginally better, the gilt dec.panelled spines remain reasonably bright but have lost 3 of 4 labels (title to vol.one remains, joints secure but all have hair-line cracks; internally: clean, tight and unmarked bar usual border tanning to pastedowns and endpapers, though not heavy, faint hints of marginal tanning throughout, otherwise no obvious faults. Some overlap with Dodsley's 6-volume collection which likely inspired Donaldson's more modest efforts, a mixture of the celebrated and now unknown inc. Collins, Samuel Johnson, Shenstone, Dyer, Garrick, James Thomson, Whitehead, Merrick, Akenside and Jago. Vol 1.: blank fly, half-title+t.p.+'Advertisement'+ix+162; Vol.2: blank fly+half-title+t.p.+viii+271, tear top outer corner leaf 269/70 now closed with transparent tear-repair tape. Advertisement explains that the poems 'have been carefully selected by Gentlemenwell known in the Poetical World' and that 'The Publisher takes this opportunity of returning his thanks' to them.
