4to. 7.5 x 10 inches. vii + [v] + 67 pp. + [1]. Title page in grey and black. Thyrsis has separate half title. Bound in original green cloth, gilt with gilt block on front board in original dust wrappers with publisher's blurb on front. Spine of wrapper sunned but otherwise a very good copy. Inscription and pictorial bookplate of Joseph and Edith Freeman Crockham Hill (Edenbridge, Kent) on verso of first free endpaper. Illustrated by 10 tipped in colour plates by W. Russell Flint, including frontispiece. Map endpapers. Decorated by initial and vignette on title page. This edition was first published in 1910 and first reissued with the map endpapers, designed by Edmund H. New, in 1911. The Scholar Gipsy by Matthew Arnold was first published in 1853 and Thyrsis, in book form, in 1867. Sir William Russell Flint (1880-1969) was a distinguished watercolour artist, known for his nudes and landscapes.
