About this Item
The first Royal Oman Stud Book. Original b/w wraps 16x22cm, illustrated with "We Support World Arabian Horse Organisation" (WAHO) image to the back, and "Black Arabian from the Imam of Muscat" to the front. Printed by the International Printing Press, Ruwi, Oman. 46pp including several b/w photos + colour folding pedigree certificate. Very good. Extremely rare, with Worldcat recording only 1 location (National Library of South Africa), none on Library Hub. The WAHO was formed in 1967 to protect and develop the Arabian Horse worldwide through internationally accepted regulations and standards, assisted by the preparation of stud books. In 1978 Sultan Qaboos began to establish a Royal Stud in Salalah, importing 2 purebred stallions and 5 mares, and a number of Anglo-Arabs, "to gradually restore the Omani breed to its former excellence". In the same year the Royal Oman Police imported purebred and Anglo-Arab mares and 2 pure stallions to breed remounts, as it considered the Arabian to be best suited to the country and its climate. In 1979, Oman joined the WAHO, and these two Studs form the base of this, its first Royal Oman Stud Book (Foreword). The Register included here displays 4 purebred stallions, 6 mares (ROAHSB 1-10), and 2 foals (ROAHSB F1-2) with photos, descriptions, ownership details etc. A list of breeding regulations recognises Sultan Qaboos as "the sole registration authority for purebred Arabian horses in Oman and the Stud Book will be compiled and the register kept by the Royal Stud" in line with WAHO standards (1), with the Royal Stud responsible for all records (6).
