Half-title, chromolithographed frontispiece (A Bride Cake) protected by tissue guard and 7 plates, 5 wood-engraved plates, full-page bills of fare within text. xxiii, 422 pages + 18 pages of illustrated advertisements at the rear of the book. Publisher's original brown cloth with gilt vignette of an elaborate dessert to the middle of the front board. Topics: Ice cream, Ices, etc, Confectionery, Desserts. Front and rear hinges weak but holding. There is a book-plate to the front paste-down of Charles Pasley (Royal Engineers). Major-General Charles Pasley (14 November 1824 11 November 1890) was a British Army officer and Colonial Engineer and politician in Colonial Victoria. There are a few short tears/miniscule loss from careless opening (particularly affecting the advertisements at the rear of the book), occasional spotting or light staining, a few small ink spots to the back board), minor rubbing to the extremities. Overall VG indeed. Housed in a modern buckram slip-case, [Bitting p.164; Cagle 688 (erroneously calling for 9 chromolithographed plates)]. Photographs/scans available upon request.
