About this Item
Landscape quarto, 38pp, captioned photographs of tramcars, coaches, buses, lorries, railway carriages, wagons etc, thick paper covers. In fair condition, the staples rusted away, a vertical fold and the covers somewhat grubby. We date it to around 1931 as a 'Ro-Rail' Car built for the LMS is illustrated and these vehicles that could run on the road as well as the railway were built then. Cravens were established in 1853 and was a railway carriage and rolling stock builder who also built tramcars, buses and coaches. It survived until the 1990s and its works in Staniforth Road were demolished in 2005. Unfortunately Cravens has left a deadly legacy in that it used asbestos extensively in its manufacturing process which, decades later, has lead to many deaths of its former workers from asbestosis.
