1955. Reprint of the first edition of 1942. [v], 185pp. and a frontispiece illustration by Jack Matthew. E.H. Young was a pseudonym of Emily Hilda Daniell (1880-1949), an English writer, mountaineer, and a supporter of the women's suffrage movement. She mostly wrote for adults but also published two works for children, featuring four young children - Hugh, Laura, Cicely and Stephen. The first story told of their adventures on a caravan holiday, and this time they go on a river holiday. The book is bound in the original brown boards with blue titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with light bumping to the spine ends. The contents are tight and clean with a school prize label on the front free endpaper. The clipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with some soiling and bumping and nicks to the corners and bottom of the spine. The top of the spine has some pieces missing, including about 1/2" from the back corner. There are some tears of about 1/2" on the edges that have been repaired on the reverse with tape. There is a larger tear of about 1 1/2" with some surrounding creases on the top rear spine edge and this tear has been repaired on the reverse with a patch of white paper.
