The illustrated paste down on the front board is bright, clean and without damage and is mirrored on the front cover of the dust wrapper. The pastedown and cover are of a girl in front of a cottage with a male deer. The lettering on the spine is in black. The frontispiece and the cover illustrations are by Gustaf Tenggren. This volume also has decorated end papers. There are no previous owner's names or marks to this volume internally or externally. The top edge is dyed red and the other edges are white. The dust wrapper has chips, wear and a bit of paper loss, at the spine top, and a few tears at the edges. The back panel lists books for gifts for children for a dollar all by the same publisher as this book. There is a brown stain on pages 106-107 where a birthday gift tag had been laid in. This volume is part of The Newbery Classics series. This has the 1924 copyright information for the illustration but no other publication information is printed. Seller Inventory # Sp40
