WWII North Africa/Italian campaign described from a GI's point of view. Written by one of the most famous war correspondents of that war. The book ends: "That is our war, and we will carry it with us as we go on from one battleground to another until it is all over, leaving some of us behind.When we leave here for the next shore, there is nothing we can do for the ones beneath the wooden crosses, except perhaps to pause and murmur, 'Thanks, pal.'" Ernest Taylor Pyle (1900?1945) was a Pulitzer Prizewinning American journalist and war correspondent who is best known for his stories about ordinary American soldiers during World War II. Hardcover with green cloth board, silver lettering, but only part of DJ laid-in. Interior is tight, clean and text unmarked, although prior owner name and address on ffep. Copyrights 1943.
