Interior is tight, clean and text unmarked, although front gutter torn and inscribed on ffep as a 1943 Christmas gift from a young man to his parents, POS on front paste-down. WWII North Africa/Italian campaign described from a GI's point of view. Written by one of the most famous war correspondents of that war. The book ends: "That is our war, and we will carry it with us as we go on from one battleground to another until it is all over, leaving some of us behind.When we leave here for the next shore, there is nothing we can do for the ones beneath the wooden crosses, except perhaps to pause and murmur, 'Thanks, pal.'"
