5 in. x 7 1/8 in., publisher's announcement, printed on a folded sheet of thick, cream-toned paper card stock, to open like a greeting card; the outer front page features plant & insect designs printed in brown tones on a varying tan background, with smaller sized Italian language phrases & larger, early typographic Italian type in black, printed over this. Gives the background and details of the book. "Putrefatti was created for the exhibition "Science and the Artist's Book" (1995-1996) sponsored by the Smithsonian and the Washington Project for the Arts." Based on Francesco Redi's "Esperienze Intorno Alla Generazione Degl' Insetti" published in 1668. This announcement is numbered in pencil: 55/200 & signed in pencil at the end: S. M. Walker. It also includes a printed 8 1/2 in. x 11 in. letter on University of Massachusetts-Boston stationary, dated September, 1995, giving further information about the book, signed: Samuel M. Walker. This letter shows a central, horizontal fold from mailing, some ruffling to the edges. The announcement is in fine condition.
