12mo. 183pp. Red calf boards, with gilt ruling and tooling along edges of covers, along book edges and on spine. Spine with gilt lettering over green label. Marbled edges and endpapers. The book is an edition of Tennyson's "serio-comic blank verse narrative poem", originally published in 1847. "The poem tells the story of an heroic princess who forswears the world of men and founds a women's university where men are forbidden to enter." Covers with sunning and rubbing to edges, as well as some minor scratching and smudging. Hinges of spine rubbed. Interior with ex-libris pasted on at interior front cover. Foxing to front and rear free endpapers, as well as half title. Binding in good-, interior in overall very good condition. Several later works have been based upon the poem, including Gilbert and Sullivan's comic opera Princess Ida. Seller Inventory # 41541
