19 Copper plate engravings. Civil War portraits, NO TEXT. No date but WATERMARK of 1821. Plates initialled R.S. (National Galleries attributes to Richard Sawyer.) Very good rag paper. Originally published in 1649 in "Portraits from A Survey Of England's Champions" with 21 plates plus f.p. Later issued with 22 plates plus f.p This is a reprinted collection of 18 plates plus fp . 250 mm x 150 mm. All eminently frameable. Lacks 4 portraits found in the original ; Cromwell, Lasley(Scotch Generall {sic}), Gray and Denbigh) Amateur soft bound. This work was reprinted in 1818 and c.1830 and in a different form in 1873. The paper appears to be of better quality than book production stock. The plates show no evidence of having been bound. We are assuming that these plates were printed separately as a collection of plates sometime after but close to 1821. All editions appear to have used the original 17th century plates.
