About this Item
[6] pp 7-288 An early reprint of Joyce's first great novel with interesting associations. The sixth impression 1928 in black boards; Good overall, wear to the corners and some loss to the spine although more than half is present, internally near fine. Ownership inscription of Adele Jacob Smith, Paris 1930 who has annotated a definition of beauty and art on page 235, " Never has it been said more tellingly". Smith bought the book from Shakespeare and Company, the Parisian bookshop of Sylvia Beach whose bookseller's ticket appears to final pastedown. Nothing more needs to be said about the literary significance of this novel except perhaps to reread its first line and contemplate genius: 'Once upon a time and a very good time it was there was a moocow coming down along the road and this moocow that was coming down along the road met a nicens little boy named baby tuckoo.'
