Undated, presumed 1924 edition. First published in 1899 as "Poison Romance and Poison Mysteries". Octavo, 412 pp. Decorated red cloth with black titles to cover and spine. Bookplate of Irvin Mattick to the front pastedown. Some signs of possible water damage to the upper portion of the text block but not stained. A bit of bowing to the boards. Some roughness to the cuts at the bottom edge of the text block. Still a very attractive copy. In a pictorial jacket with the front leaf clipped, but the price of $4.50 intact on the rear leaf. Tape repairs to the sunned spine. Numerous chips and small tears. 26 chapters on the historical use of poisons including anthropological notes of early humans and a chapter on "hasish and hashish-eaters". 23 additional chapters of historical true crime mysteries.
