Pleasing Reflections attracted a short notice in The Monthly Review for 1788: "Miscellaneous collections, of this kind, are become very numerous; but as they generally consist of moral pieces, they are, to say the least of them, innocent as well as entertaining. The multiplication, therefore, of such compilements, is of no disservice to society. The pocket volume now before us, is calculated for the instruction, as well as the amusement, of young people, of both sexes The Editor is Mr. Wright, whose former publication of a similar nature, we have noticed, as to subserve the good purposes of religion and virtue.".
