Holt Beever (Hannah Jane Durham- see below) Pencraig Court Hannah Jane Durham Mary Louisa [Durham]. B. Moffatt. "B" possibly refers to Harold Charles Moffatts wife Mary Blanche Philippa Oakley of Goodrich Court. Goodrich Court A neo-gothic castle in Herefordshire, was purchased by George Moffatt in 1870 on his retirement. Georges son Harold Charles Moffat made over the property during his lifetime to his daughter Dorothy, who married Guy Rawson Trafford of Hill Court Manor (A manor built in 1700 at Home Green, Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire). After the death of her brother (Cecil Harold) in 1916 Dorothy became heiress to Goodrich Court and so the two estates became one estate of nearly two thousand acres. Upon her mothers death Dorothy left Hill Court and went to live at Goodrich Court to be joined after the outbreak of war by the evacuated Felstead School. When Felstead School left it became clear that it was impossible to maintain two large houses, so Dorothy Trafford moved back to Hill Court. There was no apparent use for Goodrich Court and so in 1946 it was pulled down. Hannah Jane Holt Beever (nee Durham abt. 1828 - 1895) Born in Rio de Janeiro. Wife of Rev. William Holt Beever (Honorary Canon of Llandaff Cathedral) resident of Pencraig Court about 1. 5km from Goodrich Court owned by George Moffatt. One can possibly assume that due to their proximity B. Moffatt and Hannah Jane Holt Beever were friends. Moffatt Family. George Moffatt (1806-1878) Born 1806, son of William Moffat, tea agent and broker. Entered the family business of Moffatt & Co. and became a well-known tea broker and politician. From 1834 onwards established a good business relationship with Jardine, Matheson & Co. , traders in China. In 1845 he acquired 103 Eaton Square and another residence at St Leonards Hill, Windsor. Expanding and diversifying his interests, he became chairman of the Lhynvi Iron and Coal Company and invested in United States railway stock. In 1856 he married Lucy Morrison (1825-1876), the eldest daughter of another merchant prince, James Morrison. They had a son and three daughters, namely Harold, Alice, Ethel and Hilda. In 1871 he purchased Goodrich Court, near Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire, a Gothic mansion, together with its remaining collections of armour. Seller Inventory # 9328
