RARE gilded & embossed illustrated hardcover book, sorry no dust-jacket. "The Pilgrim's Progress and Other Works" by John Bunyan. Edited with Notes Original & Selected by Rev. C. H. H. Wright, M.A. With illustrations by Horace Castelli. Large & heavy Volume. 4to, 29.2 cm x 22.6 cm x 6.2 cm, Dark green cloth-covered boards, Gilt embossed lettering on spine, Some plates have protective film. No publication date, but believed to be circa 1860s. 961 pages. Weight; Approx. 3.1 Kg. (3100 Grams). CONTENTS FOXED & TANNED IN PLACES, BUT MOSTLY IN VERY GOOD CONDITION!!! This book appears to have been neatly repaired in various parts by previous owner, including beginning and end of book and 2 or 3 pages/plates. Cover and spine are scuffed, worn, bumped & marked, discoloured in places, edges scuffed & worn. Binding remains tight! Gilt slightly dull. Tiny hole in cloth between spine & front cover. Corners are bumped & frayed, boards exposed on 3. Some pages (very few) have tiny edge nicks, bumps or tears, including alongside spine, and/or corner folds, and/or smudges. One word obscured by repair on page 63. Small area of surface damage to illustration plate between pages 472 & 473. Small damp stain & tiny nick on illustration plate between pages 518 & 519. One protective film has a hole. stain bottom margin of page 640. Pages 702 & 703 are stuck together by a small "stain", surface damage to paper over text there. Some illustration plates are marked on reverse. Age tanning & some foxing throughout. RARE ANTIQUE, BEAUTIFUL ILLUSTRATIONS!!!
