London circa july 1919 second edition brown cloth with double border and black lettering NF/F. This is an interesting item and the only clue to the date as it is not listed in macilvaine is a newspaper article dated july which was part of the binding of a damaged copy.As the first was published in may 1918 and would probably not have been distributed until later to meet the christmas market its likely that it is 1919 as the popular edition came out in march 1920. .As ther print run was only 2000 and we do not know how many were bound its not likely there will be too many copies out there especially as the binding was fragile .The copyright page reads first edition 5000 second edition 2000. The first edition turns up reasonably regularly but this is only the second copy I have seen .The wrapper is 1922 ref macilvaine item 3.There appears to be a mystery about the true ist wrapper as I have not been able to find anyone who has a complete copy and the closest seems to be the front panel that I have .Its possible that as it came out at the end of the war that a large number of copies may have been destroyed Language: eng.
