About this Item
One 9 x 14 cm b&w postcard. Shows amateur speed skater Harry Cody leaping over a pile of barrels. Rear has US stamp and postmark from Saranac Lake, New York State dated March 1, 1914. Message sent to Hazel Allan, Trafalgar Institute, 83 Simpson Street, Montreal. Scuff at top front. Harry Cody, born in Toronto, was International outdoor amateur speed skating champion in 1914-16. On January 29, 1914 he won the three-mile championship held at Saranac Lake and in 1916 he won the one-mile champiionship also held at Saranac Lake, so it's not surprising the village sold postcards of the event. Hazel's Dad describes this as a "picture of champion skater in Saranac Lake.". Seller Inventory # 125221
