About this Item
Oblong octavo measuring 12.25" x 8". String bound green leatherette boards with gilt decorations. Contains gelatin silver black and white or sepia toned photographs measuring between 1" x 1" and 3.25" x 5.25" with some captions. Light wear along the extremities, near fine with fine photographs. A young man's photo album from the 1930s and later living in Massachusetts. The album first focuses on the family farm with shots of the stables and animals on the farm, cows, horses, etc. However, most of the album is focused on the young man's time in junior high and Harvard College in sports. The first heavily pictured sport is the football team for the man's junior high school with the names of players captioned including Clyde Albee, Carl Harden, Ben Middleton, Richard Broke, Walter Pratt, John Proctor, Paul Hamilton. These boys were a part of the Backfield Football club showing team A and team B. Each boy is seen wearing a uniform and the original leather helmets. Some of the same kids can be seen on the school team for Basketball for Gordon High School. Each team member has a portrait picture. These same gentlemen are also seen on the baseball team and a part of the Massachusetts Human Society Club in swimmer's gear featuring full one-piece suits. He is also pictured in the "Arms and Trades" band with a trombone in arms and in uniform. In other photographs there is a small steamboat shown with the name "pilgrim" painted along the side. It's safe to assume the young man was a bit of an amateur photographer based on the team pictures, portrait shots; included are several well-composed photographs of Harvard's classrooms, mess halls, and dorms. A young amateur photographs photo album during his time playing basketball, baseball, swimming, and football for Gordon High School and attending Harvard University in the 1930s.
