First edition published posthumously by Monroe's grandson, Samuel L. Gouveneur. There is an owner's ink name on the front endpaper, dated 1868 as well as a label of the same owner on the front pastedown. The board edges are bumped, there is general overall soiling and there is wear to the cloth on the head and foot of the spine. The textblock though is clean and tight.
