12mo, engraved title with vignette of Paul and Virginia by H Richter, ix, 215 p. Five engraved plates, few woodcut endpieces. Lovely contemporary green calf stamped in a diamond pattern, four raised bands, red lettering pieces, endpapers and all edges marbled. Old ink name at head of title, some staining and foxing of plates, picture of Paul and Virginia entitled "The Parting of Paul and Virginia" a marble group by Hamilton MacCarthy, A.R.C.A., Toronto stuck on front blank facing the engraved title. OCLC lists only 9 copies of this printing, all in the US, of this second edition with an engraved title page and 215 pages. A digital picture of the binding, on request, will be necessary to do justice to this beautiful contemporary binding which may well be of local origin.
