3rd Edition / 6th Impression. DESCRIPTION: Red cloth. Stamps of "Force Headquarters British Forces in Palestine and T.J" dated 9 Oct 1939 to front and rear endpapers with a moving hand written inscription referring to the Memorial in Sydney commemorating the the bravery of the horses used by the Desert Mounted Corp in the Syrian desert 1915-1919. - See provenance. Four large fold out maps to rear Language: English. Book Condition: Good: Wear to corners, edges and spine ends. Rubbed and marked cloth. Tightly bound with lightly toned intact endpapers and strong hinges. Stamps to endpapers with large annotation noted above to ffep. Spotting to prelims and rear pages with furhter spotting and fox patches to page margins. Toned and spotted text block edge. All map are neatly folded. The first map has a 5cm tear to upper edge where attached to gutter. The other have very minor tears to the same location. DJ Condition: No DJ. Pages 252. Size: 8vo 22cm by 14cm. PROVENANCE: STAMP: Force Headquarters British Forces in Palestine and TJ 9th October 1939 [DAS Pringle - see below]. Acquired as part of a collection of books belonging to D.A.S. Pringle. Not specifically named in this book. D.A.S. Pringle.He spent a short period as GSO1 Ops at HQ Palestine and Trans Jordan in 1943, where his focus was primarily on the defensive requirements against a possible German invasion from the north via the Caucasus. One of the tasks was the layout of a defensive line along the Carmel Range, from Haifa to Jenin, and back to Jericho. This was to be the second line of defence, the first being in the mountains of Syria and the Lebanon. Seller Inventory # 9197
