Vol. I, xvi + 593 + [1] pp.; Vol. II, xvi + [i] + 549 + [1] pp. Bound in original brown half morocco over marbled boards; spine in compartments with raised bands, decorated gilt with contrasting maroon morocco title labels, gilt. Endpapers and all edges marbled. Extremities worn. Front hinge just starting to crack, Vol. I; some damp damage on lower quarter of front board with neat repair to leather, and some lower margin damp stains in early part, particularly affecting title page and contents of Vol. II. Otherwise very good copies with clean interiors. Binder's stamp of White of Pall Mall on second free endpaper. Stamps of Student Interpreters Library Pekin on title pages. A scarce set, handsomely bound. One of the best known works of the utilitarian philosopher, John Stuart Mill (1806-73), which became the standard, most widely read, economic text of its time.
