About this Item
Curwen Press edition, printed in England for distribution in America. Illustrated throughout in black and white by Claud Lovat Fraser. Small 4to, original green paper-covered boards backed in blue buckram, lettered and illustrated in blue on upper board, paper label on spine, decorated endpapers. 50. A handsome copy with some minor chipping to boards. Claud Lovat Fraser carefully selected this group of poems from Cotton s body of work to illustrate, having been a long-time fan. "His seventy-five drawings were done slowly and deliberately, and with the greatest enjoyment. They represent him at his best as a book-decorator and as an artist." Cotton is known not only for contributions to 17th century verse, but also for his co-authoring with Isaac Walton of what is perhaps the most famous fishing book of all time, THE COMPLEAT ANGLER. A harmonious combination of text and illustration. Seller Inventory # 16101
