SAVAGE, John, ed. PICTURESQUE IRELAND: a literary and artistic delineation of the natural scenery remarkable places, historical antiquities, public buildings, ancient abbeys, towers, castles and other romantic and attractive features of Ireland. Illustrated in steel and wood, by eminent native and foreign artists. New York: Thomas Kelly, (1894). Quarto; xxxiii,649 pp. This copy is complete but offered with all faults: the final one hundred pages are dampstained, mostly in the margins and lightly so, but increasing as the volume concludes; both boards and the frontispiece map are detached. This is a shame as it is a lovely production, being profusely illustrated with wood-engraved illustrations in the text, and with 18 steel-engravings (including a steel t.p.) and 17 color maps inserted. Sixteen maps are double-sided and one (the frontisp.) is folding. Text leaves are lightly toned at edges, with a few short edge-tears; one leaf (p. 415-16) has a closed tear. A readable copy but, for the reasons stated above, offered with all faults. Seller Inventory # 70657

Three-Quarter Leather. Condition: Good. xxxiii 649 pages. Customers please note the book is heavy and will attract additional postage. Three quarter leather with gold emboss, decorative spine, gilt print aand raised band . Coloured maps and profusely illustrated.The boards are rubbed, the back one badly and the front one is partially detached towards the head, leaving a small gap. There is no danger of the board as such becoming detached.There is a presentation page claimed by Daniel. Page 115/6 have a short, closed tear at the head, while pp133/34 have two, one at the tail one on the outer edge. There are other pages with very small tears and not many at that. None affects the print.Ten plates are damp affected, bar one which touches a small part of the print, the stain is always on the blank outer edge. All prints have their tissue guards.There is a large fold out map of Ireland at the back which has been reinforced at the edges and one closed tear repaired. Intermittent minor staining throughout the book. For all its faults, it remains an attractive publication. The binding is solid, profusely illustrated, maps. The 1900 date is taken from Trove, though the printing could well be 1884 or late 19th century. Seller Inventory # 020639
