Colored lithographic frontispiece in first volume, tinted lithographic frontispiece in second; tinted lithographic and letterpress titlepage in both volumes. Slightly later three-quarter morocco and cloth, spines gilt. Bookplates of Albert Davis on front pastedowns of both volumes, bookplates of Charles R. Sanders, Jr. on rear pastedowns of both volumes, presentation inscription on front free endpaper of v.1 ("To Charles David, From C.E. Morris, Jany. 1st, 1852"). A bit of wear at corners, spine ends, and along joints. Bookplate on front and rear pastedowns. Quite clean internally. Very good. First edition thus of this popular work. Originally planned for twenty installments, it grew to thirty numbers issued from June 1850 to December 1852.
