Octavo, xiv, 624 pages. In Good plus condition. Bound in half red leather and red cloth boards with paneling and gilt lettering to spine. Heavy rubbing to edges and corners of boards, hinges, and head and tail of spine. Partial splitting at top edge of front hinge. Moderate scuffing to spine and boards. Spine slightly cocked. Marbled edges of textblock faded. With marbled endpapers. Half title page present. First gathering coming loose from binding. Age toning with light scattered staining throughout. With the following first issue points present: chapter XXVII listed as beginning on page 283 in the table of contents but actually begins on page 282; uncorrected "cha pter" on page 19; "viii" in preface with last "i" not aligned; uncorrected "coroboration" on page 387; uncorrected "recal" on pages 16 and 225; Lacking "screwed" for "screamed" on page 132, "1850" on the vignette title page.
