About this Item
The artwork of birds' eggs presumably published in "The Ibis" for 1860. The two birds are included in the "List of the Specimens of Birds of the British Museum. Part. I. Accipitres" published in 1848. The BM listing indicates that the birds, commonly named the red-backed buzzard and the southern Caracara were collected in the Straits of Magellan, Falkland Islands and other South American locations and donated by the Admiralty, Sir W. Burnett & Capt. Fitzroy (of the Beagle), Mr. Leadbeater's collection, amongst others. The hand painted bird eggs, captioned in the upper right "Ibis, 1860. Pl. 1" and below Buteo Erythronotus and Milvago Australis. Cream paper, 5 1/2 x 8 1/2". Seller Inventory # 26276
