This is a nicely preserved souvenir program for the Oneida Paid Firemen's Association Fifth Annual field Day, held July 19 - 23, 1949 at Harmon Field, Oneida. the Event was special because it celebrated the 100th Anniversary of Oneida fire Department. The book, a 48 page paper-bound pamphlet, is chock full of local Oneida advertising. There are photographs of some of the members of the Oneida Fire Department, as well as a photographs of what was likely a new 65 foot Aerial Truck, as well as what looks to be also new, an American La France Triple Combination hose truck. ********************************** TITLE : Oneida Paid Firemen's Association Fifth Annual Field Day and 100th Anniversary of Oneida Fire Department - Souvenir Program. / IMPRINT : Oneida Paid Firemen's Association / PRINTER : Typographical Union / PLACE : Oneida , New York / DATE : July 1949 / PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION : 48 page illustrated booklet; 6" x9" printed wraps, stapled. The front of the booklets is printed with the title and attendance dates. The rear cover has a promotional advertisement for the Oneida Lodge No. 421, Loyal Order of Moose, which features a (rather grainy) photograph of the MOOSE Lodge and Club Rooms on Broad Street. the ad also has a list of Lodge Officers. *************************************** Pages 10 and 11 have a brief history of the Oneida fire Department. The book has a full list of members, and placed throughout the pages are photographs of the following Paid Firemen : Deputy Chief Seymour Phillips, Chief Frank Cheeseman, Captain Raymond Nye, Captain Edward McCulley, Fireman Charles Moody, Fireman Harley Rogers, Fireman Gaspar Smith, Fireman Archie Diable, Fireman Albert Merrill, Fireman Richard Anthony, Fireman Charles Moshier, Fireman John Mulroy. there is also a photo portrait of Fire Commissioner Marion Dean. There is a lot to bring up memories: a large array of advertising from local businesses and leading professionals. Most of the ads are modest, but remain a lasting record of businesses, most of which have long physically disappeared from the community, if not in memory.
