With the 19th century innovations of publishing and technology, the world became a smaller place and one which anyone could become acquainted with. As these changes blossomed, the fledgling company of Rand McNally realized the interest in small accessible material, and produced a pocket atlas. These maps carry handy reference information, and were up to date for the period. They include cities, some towns as well as some roads. They have their own charm and would be great for framing, and decorative use. This map measures 3 by 5 inches. Seller Inventory # 70352

Condition: Very Good. "This two-toned map of Oklahoma and the Indian Territory was published in Chicago as part of the 1895 edition of Rand McNally's Indexed Atlas of the World. A bifurcated image shows the territory of Oklahoma (pink), expanding ever eastwards at the expense of the Indian Territory (yellow). An inset map in the lower left shows the western portion of the Oklahoma panhandle, which opened for settlement in 1891. Numerous parcels of land are assigned letters, indicating a county name has not yet been assigned. Topography is depicted in hachure and military reservations are outlined. Railroads, Native American tribes, towns and villages, geographic features, and forts are labeled. Includes an accompanying sheet of descriptive text that describes the political history of each territory. Source: National Cowboy Museum" Sheet Width (in) 22 Sheet Height (in) 14.9 Condition Description Toned in the margins and three closed tears, two of which just enter the neatline, are repaired with archival tape on the verso. Condition: Fine. "This interesting map of the adjacent Oklahoma and Indian Territories was published in Chicago by Rand McNally in 1901. A finely detailed image identifies towns and Native American villages, geographic features, Indian agencies and schools, and military reservations. Topography is depicted in hachure, highlighting the rugged terrain of the Ouachita Mountains in the southeast. The left margin contains an index of towns and cities with their respective populations (in thousands). Red overprinting identifies the railroads in operation in both the Oklahoma Territory (lower left) and Indian Territory (lower right). The latter has more companies in operation by a wide margin, though several are short and designed almost exclusively for local commodities like coal and lumber. The state was in the midst of a railroad construction boom at the time of publication, having lagged behind much of the rest of the U.S. due to the "peculiar circumstances" (Oklahoma Historical Society) of the territory in the first half of the 19th century. Source: Oklahoma Historical Society" Sheet Width (in) 27.5 Sheet Height (in) 20.4 Condition Description "The paper is somewhat brittle from age, resulting in toned margins and several small tears along the outer edges. The largest, about .5", has been repaired on the verso with archival tape. A small chip in the lower center of the margin. Minor red ink offsetting visible in the lower right corner of the image, just across the border in Kansas. Very good overall.". Seller Inventory # 4721

We are proud to offer this wonderful large scale map originally issues as part of Rand, McNally's Enlarged Business Atlas and Shippers Guide, Showing in Detail the Entire Railroad System in 1902. The maps from this atlas were larger than most atlas' published at the time and show many more cities and towns. All railroad lines were drawn in red and numbered with a listing of all railroads operating in the state on each map. William H. Rand founded the company in 1856 and incorporated it in 1873 with his partner Andrew McNally. They published their first atlas, The Business Atlas, in 1877. Rand McNally and Company is the oldest business of its kind in the country. This map measures 27.25 by 19 inches. Seller Inventory # 122766
