xxi, [3], 24-238 p. 23 cm. One fold-out table. Original wraps respined in brown cloth with new spine label. Boards stained, corners worn. New endpapers. Ink inscription on front endpaper and ink mark on date. Dampstains throughout. Tiny hole in p. ix and hole in p. 233. Title continues: "Or, A Systematic Arrangement of Diseases, by Classes, Orders, Genera, and Species; With the Distinguishing Characters of Each, and Outlines of the Systems of Sauvages, Linnaeus, Vogel, Sagar, and Macbride." Scottish physician William Cullen (1710 1790) was one of the most important professors at the Edinburgh Medical School during its heyday as one of the world's leading centres of medical education. Cullen was also a successful author, publishing a number of medical textbooks. Although mostly for the use of his students, his books were popular throughout Europe and the American colonies as well. This Nosology, his first book-length publication, was originally published in 1769 under the Latin title Synopsis Nosologiae Methodicae and became very influential. Seller Inventory # 123592
