About this Item
Publication of this "historical review" of "Racing ,Trotting and Breeding as an Industry" folloiwed closely on the centenary of horse racing in NZ, in the early 1840s, although it was not until the 1880s that a formal and structured overall organisation, the NZ Racing Association, was established. The author, a prominant racing journalist, takes the story back to racing's NZ origins with its two main sections covering racing and trotting clubs and studs. A general overview of the racing industry preceeds these capters. Twenty five clubs are covered, with a wide varity of topics being included, as are racing personalities and a number of supporting organisations. Twenty studs are given similar treatment. At the back of the book a number of statistical and records lists are printed. At the time of publication this book probably represented the most intensive study of racing in NZ and it is now quite scarce. First edition of 1945, 304 pages, b/w photos throughout, red hard covers with black front titles VG+, internally excellent, no insctiptions. Seller Inventory # 003971
