About this Item
Given as the second edition, far more corrected and exact, and enlarged almost by half. The first edition was probably published in 1663. 'A New Torch to the Latine Tongue' (644 pages) bound with 'Institutionum Grammaticarum Pars Prima' (171 pages) and a 24 page index to 'A New Torch.' A page or two seem to have been removed or lost from the beginning of the second work with a small stub remaining. The first page present is the title page which has some staining to the left edge. The publication date give for the second work is 1667. The full leather binding is very worn. There is a large crack down the right edge of the spine next to the front panel and some of the surface has been lost along hinge. The front panel is still attached but this is rather slack and fragile. Only a fragment of the title panel on the spine remains and the four raised bands are long gone. There is also some chipping at the top and bottom and surface cracking to the spine. The front and rear panels have significant surface wear with some rubbing to the corners. The pages are browned around the edges with a little discolouration in places and some staining to the top areas of the pages at the front of the second work but generally unmarked. Shanganah Castle written on the front pastedown. The rear pastedown has various notes written across most of its surface. The first page is an Imprimatur dated Aug. 18, 1663. Tearing to the inner bottom corner of the this page and to the inner bottom corner of page 47. First printing. Seller Inventory # 015698

More InformationOrders usually ship within 2 business days.
UK Orders: Shipping costs are based on books weighing 2.2 lb, or 1 kg. If your book order is heavy or oversized, we may contact you to let you know extra shipping is required. If you are buying a small paperback or another small book then the postage and packing will generally be reduced by £1.50 and I will reduce the charge before processing your order.
European Orders: Shipping costs are based on books weighing 800g. For European orders I have only quoted a price for air mail. Not all European countries have been added so your shipping may appear high. Please note that I will adjust the charge I make if this is the case and postage to Europe will be lower than the rest of the world. If you are buying a small paperback or another small book then the postage and packing will generally be reduced by £1.50 and I will reduce the charge before processing your order.
Other overseas orders: shipping costs are based on books weighing 800g. I will generally use whatever method is covered by the standard postage charge but if you specifically wish to have it sent surface or airmail or anything else please ask and I will amend the charge accordingly. Please only choose the cheaper surface mail option if you do not mind waiting - the suggested upper time limit for this form of delivery is 60 days and it can take that long - and sometimes a bit longer. If therefore you wish to receive the book in 2-3 weeks then please opt for the more expensive postage option which will guarantee airmail delivery. If you are buying a small paperback or another small book then the postage and packing will generally be reduced by £1.50 and I will reduce the charge before processing your order.
Books are usually wrapped in bubblewrap and then in cardboard. Please ask if you have any particular requirements.
