One of the first images of the natives of New Amsterdam, an original copper engraved print showing Native Americans walking along the banks of the Hudson River. In the foreground, a man with fur trimmed robes, a bow in his right hand and a quiver of arrows on his back, walks with a woman also dressed in fur trimmed robes and wearing shell necklaces and bracelets. In the background are a Native American canoe on the river, and a young woman carrying a woven basket on her hip. From 'Arnoldus Montanus 'De Nieuwe en Onbekende Weereld: of beschryving van America en t Zuid-Land' (America, Being an Accurate Description of the New World). With text printed in two columns below the engraving in Dutch, as well as the verso. Engraving 6 3/4 x 5", paper 14 1/2 x 9 1/4". A fine dark impression. Seller Inventory # 26310
