A scarce account of a court-martial for Colonel John McNeil, who had allegedly forbidden a civilian, John P. Arndt, from entering Fort Howard, near Green Bay in Michigan Territory. Arndt was a known trafficker in illegal liquor, and was banned by Colonel McNeil as a result. McNeil was arrested for lying about giving the order banning Arndt from the fort, but was subsequently acquitted. The text of the present work includes testimony and excerpts from letters supporting the charges made against McNeil, mainly from a most aggrieved Lieutenant James Watson Webb, who truly seems to have it in for McNeil and his two main supporters, General Winfield Scott and Colonel Henry Leavenworth.
